LIC’s embedded value at $150 billion, govt rushes to bring in IPO: BPCL also in the fray.

The much awaited mega IPO of LIC will come to market soon. The govt is keen to raise adequate recourses be disinvesting LIC, BPCL and five more before 31st March 2022. LIC has a staggering valuations of over $ 150 Billion and even 10 % of it is disinvested, it will be a mega IPO. The LIC IPO, which is key to meeting the government’s disinvestment target of Rs . 1.75 lakh crore, is likely to hit markets in the fourth quarter of this fiscal, much before the new IPO financing norms kick in.

A list with the names of about 100 global investors has been shared with the 10 banks working on the deal and the institutions will approach different sets of investors.

Banks plan to file the draft IPO prospectus with the markets regulator by the first week of Dec 2021.
At a valuation of $150 billion, the share sale, likely to be 10% of the valuation would make it the biggest IPO so far. Reliance Industries’ valuation alone is around USD 220 Billion

The mega LIC IPO was expected in the January-March quarter of this fiscal. “On LIC IPO we are working very hard.For Capital markets it will be a big event” Says GOI Officials.

The government is hoping to complete privatization of 5-6 public sector companies including BPCL in this fiscal year 2021- 2022.
