USDINR opened at 79.21 y’day and the pair traded in the 79.80-79.19 range. Spot USDINR closed at 79.47, gain of 31 ps for USD as against prior close of 79.16.
RBI reference rate was fixed at 79.54 on 04/08. Aug USD/INR closed at 79.51, gain of 16 ps for USD as compared to prior day’s close of 79.35. Aug Euro/INR closed at 81.14, GBP/INR at 96.36 and Yen/INR at 59.35. USDINR fwd premia was trading at around 3.08% p.a. FX reserves stands at USD 571 bn as on July 29 th.

Interest rates: USD 10 Yr yield is at 2.68% and 3 m libor closed at 2.73%. Indian 10 yr benchmark yield closed at 7.22%.
Economic news: Rupee declined steeply to 79.80 as China escalated war tensions over Taiwan. However, it reversed from 79.80 on RBI intervention and on softening reports from China. RBI rate decision and US employment data are important events for the day.
BOE hiked rates by 50 bps, but indicated that the economy will enter into a prolonged recession. GDP growth is expected to slow further from Q2’s 0.5% to 0.2% in Q3, and then decline by nearly -1% in Q4. GDP is also forecast to fall further, by -1.50% in 2023, and then -0.25% in 2024.
Data highlights: – US Weekly jobless claims was reported at 260k.
-German Factory orders declined -0.4% m/m.
