FX MORNING UPDATE      

USDINR opened at 77.741 y’day and the pair traded in the 77.54-77.79 range. Spot USDINR closed at 77.56, gain of 12 ps for USD as against prior close of 77.44. RBI reference rate was fixed at 77.65 on 17/05May USD/INR closed at 77.54, gain of 8 ps for USD as compared to prior day’s close of 77.46. May Euro/INR closed at 81.69, GBP/INR at 96.70 and Yen/INR at 60.01. USDINR fwd premia was trading at around 3.56% p.a.  FX reserves stands at USD 597.73 bn as on 29/4.

In 2022-23, FII’S have sold 19327 Cr of Equities till date and have sold Rs 3661 Cr of debt till date. In 2021-22, FII’S net sold Rs 128897 cr in Equity segment and have net bought Rs 4805 cr of debt. In 2020-21 financial Year, FII’S nett bought Rs 2,74,203 Cr of Equities and have sold Rs  42820 Cr in debt.

Benchmark Nifty climbed 417 points (2.63%) y’day. DOW climbed 431 points (1.34%).Nikkei climbed 0.42% and Hang Seng climbed 3.27%.

Euro is now at 1.0556, Pound at 1.2494, Yen at 129.37.

Commodities: Gold is now at USD 1815 and WT1Crude at USD 111/Brent at USD 113.50.

Interest rates: USD 10 Yr yield is at 2.98% and 3 m libor closed at 1.40%. Indian 10 yr benchmark yield closed at 7.36%.

Economic news: Indian WPI inflation climbed to 15.08% y/y. Food inflation component climbed 8.35% and manufacturing inflation climbed 10.85% y/y.

USDINR fwd premia declined to 3.6% p.a. for 1 year on shrinking interest rate differentials. RBI is set to hike rates by 50 bps in June.

Data highlights: – US retail sales climbed 0.9% m/m, industrial production climbed 1.1% m/m.

-EU GDP climbed 0.3% q/q and 5.1% q/q in Q1.

-UK unemployment rate was reported at 3.7% and claimant count change stood at -56.9k.

GBP/USD: The pair is below all moving averages. Daily MACD is in sell zone, implying important top at 1.33 and weekly MACD is in sell zone, implying important top at 1.3730. Important support is at 1.2030. Important resistance is at 1.2410/1.2640.

USD/YEN: The pair is above major moving averages. Daily MACD is in sell zone, implying important top at 131.30. Important support is at 127.10.
