USDINR opened lower at 68.09 Y’day and the pair traded in the 68.03-68.17 range. Spot USDINR closed at 68.07, loss of 31 ps for USD as against prior close of 68.38.RBI reference rate was fixed at 68.08. Rupee recovered as Govt official said that fiscal target will be met. Bond yields also fell. June USD/INR closed at 68.12, loss of 32 ps for USD as compared to prior day’s close of 68.44. June Euro/INR closed at 78.84, GBP/INR at 89.76 and Yen/INR at 61.92.
FII’S have sold Rs 315 Cr of Indian Equities in June till date . FII’S have sold 4753 Cr of Indian debt securities in June till date . On a cumulative basis, FII’S have bought Rupees 3122 Cr of Indian Equities till date for this calendar year and have sold Rupees 36066 Cr of Indian debt in this calendar year till date.
Benchmark Nifty climbed 0.58% y’day. DOW declined 287 points (-1.15%) y’day.Nikkei climbed 1.24% and Hang seng climbed 0.77% y’day.
Euro is now at 1.1561 , Pound at 1.3159,Yen at 110.56.
Commodities: Gold is now at USD 1266 and WT1Crude at USD 65.62.
Interest rates: USD 10 Yr yield is at 2.89% and 3 m libor closed at 2.36%. Indian 10 yr benchmark yield closed at 7.83%.
Economic news: BOE meeting is in focus. European Commission formally announced retaliation to US steel and aluminum tariffs y’day. The total EU exports to the US affected by the US measures is at EUR 6.4B. EU will target US products in EUR 2.8B worth first, effective from June 22 nd. Duties on the remaining EUR 3.6B in US goods will take place at a later stage.
US Current account deficit widened to 2.5% of GDP in Q1 to USD 124.1 bn.
Data Highlights: US existing home sales dipped to 5.43mn.
