USDINR opened at 82.70 y’day and the pair traded in the 82.68-82.87 range. Spot USDINR closed at 82.85, gain of 20 ps for USD as against prior close of 82.65.

RBI reference rate was fixed at 82.79 on 27/12. Dec USD/INR closed at 82.85, gain of 16 ps for USD as compared to prior day’s close of 82.69. Dec Euro/INR closed at 88.38, GBP/INR at 99.85 and Yen/INR at 62.19. USDINR fwd premia was trading at around 2.15% p.a.  FX reserves stands at USD 564 bn as on Dec 9 th.  FX reserves have risen for the 5th straight week from USD 527 bn.


In Dec, FII’S have bought Rs 2644 Cr of Equities till date and have sold Rs 3228 Cr of debt till date. In this Calendar Year, FII’S have sold close to Rs 1.14 lac Cr worth of Equities.

Benchmark Nifty climbed 119 points (0.66%) y’day. DOW climbed 37 points (0.11%) y’day. Nikkei climbed 0.16% y’day and Hang Seng declined 0.44% on Friday.

Euro is now at 1.0635, Pound at 1.2025, Yen at 133.75.

Commodities: Gold is now at USD 1821 and WT1Crude at USD 79.75/Brent at USD 85.

Interest rates: USD 10 Yr yield is at 3.84% and 3 m libor closed at 4.77%. Indian 10 yr benchmark yield closed at 7.31%.

Economic news: ECB Vice-President said in an interview, regarding how high are interest rates going to go, “that is something we will decide meeting by meeting and on the basis of incoming data, given the current high uncertainty. “As we announced this month, there will be further, necessary, rate hikes until inflation is on a path back to close to our 2% target,” he added. Regarding the economy, he said Europe is currently in a “very difficult economic situation”, with “high inflation rates… coinciding with an economic slowdown and low growth.
