USDINR opened at 81.28 on Friday and the pair traded in the 81.10-81.38 range. Spot USDINR closed at 81.12, loss of 24 ps for USD as against prior close of 81.36.
RBI reference rate was fixed at 81.22 on 20/01. Jan USD/INR closed at 81.20, loss of 25 ps for USD as compared to prior day’s close of 81.45. Jan Euro/INR closed at 88, GBP/INR at 100.40 and Yen/INR at 62.70. USDINR fwd premia was trading at around 2.37% p.a. FX reserves stands at USD 572 bn as on Jan 13 th. Reserves rose by USD 10 bn in one week.

Economic news: ECB President Christine Lagarde said, “We have to also stay that course of resilience that we observed in 2022. Stay the course’ is my mantra for monetary-policy purposes.” “I hope that in 2023 fiscal policy will not work in a counter-cyclical way to monetary policy,” she said. “We don’t need to be pushed to do more than is necessary.”
